Founded in 1839, Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Czapek formed a Genevan pocket-watch company titled Patek, Czapek & Co. In 1944, Antoine met Jean Adrien Philippe and announced Patek & Co. one year later. By 1851, Patek & Co. became Patek Philippe and earned a Gold Medal at the World's Fair in London. In 1863, Patek Philippe paved the way for the automatic watch movement by developing the free mainspring, an essential component to operating the movement. This company was so advanced, by 1925 Patek Philippe had a wristwatch with a perpetual calendar feature and by 1959, they had a watch that kept time in two different time zones. In 1989, a complication was created over the course of nine years and consisting of 1,728 parts for a pocket watch. This complication was labeled as a Caliber 89, and was the most complicated pocket watch at the time; later selling at an auction for $ 3.2 Million.
Patek Philippe has produced some of the most amazing complications known to man. Their collections include the Nautilus, Calatrava, Gondolo, Sky Moon, Twenty-4, and many more. All of the timepieces produced by this company are of the finest quality and technical ingenuity. Patek Philippe is one of the finest watch making companies on earth.
